For a quick peek into my life story, here’s a quick rundown:
I was born in Hong Kong to a Norwegian father and a Dutch mother whose dad was a captain at a Dutch shipping company. I attended a strict British school where my class clown antics often got me in trouble and left my tie twisted in knots. We moved to the Philippines when I was eight, which is where I encountered memorable teachers, skipped a grade, and developed a passion for photography. At 13, multiple coup attempts and related political unrest in the Philippines led me to live with my aunt’s family in Vancouver, Canada. After seven years and a degree in economics, I returned to Hong Kong, traveled extensively throughout Asia and Europe for work, and eventually met & married my wife, Barbara, in Washington, D.C.
Barbara and I moved from D.C. to San Luis Obispo, California and then to Central Illinois in 2001 where I, being inspired by an English documentary wedding photographer, began photographing weddings. Twenty plus years later, Barbara and I have two amazing daughters, and life is never dull.
